The only way to get out of a rut

""

A rut or slump is a place that nobody likes to be, but most people experience it at different times in their life. Fortunately, you can change it all with a few simple tweaks. Let’s address the only way to get out of a rut.

If you find yourself feeling:

  • In a bit of a slump in your life right now
  • As if things are all over the place
  • A lot is going on
  • Scattered in your mind
  • Overwhelmed with everything

Then don’t worry, I have your back.

The Disconnection

At any moment in my life where I’ve felt off track, disconnected, or stuck, this is usually the reason…. There is a disconnection between my mission, my vision, my habits, and my routines. It’s like they’ve just disappeared into the thin air. And this is bad, real bad.

Side Note: You may want to consider identifying your personal core values.

Ultimately, when this happens, I start procrastinating, watching YouTube videos and doing all other kinds of stuff to waste time. Let me guess, you’ve done this too? I knew it! Procrastination doesn't serve any of us. We're simply avoiding what really needs to be done to move us forward, and that's no good, is it?

As this continues, you get to a point after a few days, a week or however long it goes on for, where you just really feel agitated and unsatisfied with where you’re at. This lets you know that you need a change.

Think about it for a second. Imagine you go on an adventure somewhere but then realize there is no sense of purpose or direction. You’d be going around lost. It may be fun for a while, but there would come a point where you start to drift further away. This drifting is what can place you into the space of a rut.

How to get out of a rut quickly

So, the key to getting out of a rut quickly is to get your routines and habits dialed in. I look at it in three pillars, the mind, body and soul. Having core fundamental habits and routines in these areas will amplify your success like nothing else.

Not sure what to do?

They can include anything from:

  • Gym
  • Morning Walk
  • Yoga
  • Consistent Sleep Schedule
  • Journaling
  • Mirror Work
  • Affirmations
  • Meditation
  • Breathwork
  • Visualization
  • Reading

Most of the time, people wake up in the morning and the first thing they do is pick up their phone, go on social media and see what’s going on in the world. Notifications are buzzing away and that dopamine addiction is happening immediately. We begin the day in a chaotic and reactive state to the external world.

Getting out of a slump requires you to take back your power. One of the best ways to do this is to take control of the beginning and end of your day. You get to pick what works for you and your schedule. Not everyone is a morning person and not everyone needs to get up at 5 am. But whatever you decide, be intentional and consistent. You must take control of the day before it takes control of you.

Every single time I’ve been stuck, going back to my habits and routines has been the fundamental place to start. This has also been the case for many of my clients and I’m sure it will work for you too.
