What is the Subconscious Mind?

It's been said that about 95% of our day is controlled by the subconscious mind. This means that if you want to change the results in your life, you need to understand the subconscious mind and use it to your advantage. The subconscious mind can be very powerful, but it often holds people back. This is where our beliefs, habits, memories, and deeply rooted conditioning from the past are stored, which control the show.

Technique #1: Affirmations

Affirmations are simply empowering statements. They are an "I am" statement followed by something you want to affirm.

To change your self-talk, you need to be aware of the negative self-talk and then reframe it into a positive statement. For example, if you have the belief “I’m not good enough,” reframe it to “I am enough and I am capable of achieving my goals.” The more you practice this, the more your self-talk will shift and become positive.

Affirmations sometimes get a bad reputation, but it's important to understand that this negativity is unnecessary. When we were kids, we heard things and had experiences that led to negative self-talk that stuck with us. By using affirmations, we can reprogram and recondition some of that negative stuff from the past and create new empowering beliefs.

To start with affirmations, identify your limiting beliefs and write down the opposite statement. Audio affirmations are a great way to start because you can listen to them before you go to bed and when you wake up in the morning when your brain is in a relaxed state. I have a tutorial video on how to make your audio affirmations that you can watch if you're interested.

Technique #2: Visualization

Visualization has been used for a long time by professional athletes, business people, and high-performing individuals to achieve their goals. Your mind doesn't know the difference between what is real and what is imagined. For example, golf players will practice visualization to get a perfect hit and improve their game.

Visualization is about picturing the future the way you want it to be. To be effective, you should visualize a specific scene or moment in the future when you have the desired outcome. For example, if you want to make $100,000 a year, visualize a specific picture of yourself living a life that represents that. Get emotionally involved in the visualization by thinking of all of your senses, sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The more you do this, the more familiar it becomes, and the more likely it is to happen in your life.

Technique #3: Hypnosis

Hypnosis is about being in a deeply relaxed state. You can have someone else help you or listen to an audio recording. The goal is to get past the conscious mind and access the subconscious mind. During hypnosis, you can give yourself empowering suggestions and change limiting beliefs.

There are various techniques in this field. Marisa Peer and Paul Mckenna are 2 of the worlds leading hypnotherapists.

Technique #4: Journaling

Journaling is a great way to get in touch with your subconscious mind and identify limiting beliefs. Write down your thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and look for patterns. Once you identify your limiting beliefs, you can work on changing them through affirmations, visualization, or hypnosis.

Many people don’t enjoy exploring this type of practice because they’re so used to avoiding their emotions. Oftentimes, it can feel heavy. But in doing this, you’ll begin to feel lighter, gain clarity, and reprogram your old patterns.

You can try something such as the Self Journal by Best Self.

Technique #5: Gratitude

Gratitude is a strong feeling that has the potential to significantly affect your subconscious. It generates positive energy and enables you to have a more optimistic outlook on the world when you concentrate on what you have to be grateful for. This is significant because, like a magnet, our subconscious mind draws experiences and people into our lives that are in tune with our vibration. You will therefore draw more of these things into your life if you are vibrating with gratitude, optimism, and joy.

Start each day by listing three things for which you are thankful as a form of gratitude. Anything can be it, from a warm bed to a loved one. Your subconscious mind will begin to pick up on these positive vibes as you concentrate on what you have to be thankful for, which will cause you to feel more in control and content.

Keep in mind that these methods require time and effort, but if you use them regularly, your life will change for the better. Take baby steps and concentrate on one technique at a time.
