Become the person you’ve always wanted to be

become the person you've always wanted to be. A runner sprinting

Stuck in the motions of life?

You’ve been trying to change your life for over 2 years. You genuinely want to change, you believe you can change, and you even consider yourself an ambitious person. But you still feel stuck in your life. And because of this, you go to bed each night feeling frustrated that you should be further ahead. Perhaps you describe it as though you’re “running on the treadmill to nowhere” or your life is “going around on autopilot”. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.

Watch video version:

There have been many times in my journey when I’ve struggled a lot. For instance, I can think back to my early 20s when I lacked confidence, I was terrible at dating and I would look at a lot of self-help material. With a strong desire to improve, I started going to the gym to try and build up my confidence. In my newfound love, I became slightly obsessed with motivational videos to get me pumped. They’d be on repeat when I had time to relax and watch them in the evenings. Maybe you’ve found yourself doing the same thing.

The self-help junkie

You go through that book, listen to a podcast, watch the next video, and take the latest course... You keep going around in circles.  But why? Well, you have the intention to improve, but you keep feeling stuck in the consumption trap. At this point, self-development probably just feels like a positive form of procrastination, if you’re being honest with yourself. (It was for me)

Self-development is great, but it can only get you so far in your life. Maybe right now you believe that it’s going to be the next New York Times bestselling book, a brand-new course, or just one more seminar that will be the key to your success. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve absorbed so far, because you’re not ready yet, are you? Possibly… But the chances are you’ll never be completely ready unless you dive in and take action.

Part of the challenge is the comfort you feel and the dopamine addiction when absorbing all of this content. You get that hit of dopamine, inspiration, and a piece of motivation. As a result, you take some action but then self-doubt and fear quickly kick in. So, you sit back, feel frustrated, take a break, and then something reignites that spark again - and so the cycle repeats.

Act like the person you want to become

I get it, fear, imposter syndrome, procrastination, and other internal barriers will convince you to stay safe. But life is very short and precious, so it’s a good idea that you do all you can to break past that.

If you truly want to change your life, you have to stop acting like the person you are today. Rather than force the action with where you’re currently at, you need to think about that future version of yourself. The behavioural patterns, the type of people that you would hang around with, the day-to-day actions, and the habits. Because what’s gotten you to where you are today is not going to get you to where you want to be. Most people fail with this because they’re trying to achieve goals that aren’t aligned with who they see themselves to be.

Shift your identity

You have to create a new self-image and identity of the person you wish to become. And you’ve probably heard of stories of people that have won the lottery and blown all of their money right away, or people that lose a load of weight and they put that weight back on time and time again. How about the person that keeps attracting the same type of relationships that aren’t good for them? They’ll say, “I don’t know why I keep attracting the same partner”. It’s because they’re identifying with the person they’ve been in the past and remain stuck in those patterns.

To change your life, you have to change your identity. You have to create a new vision of the person you want to become and start to take small actions every day and step into that. As mentioned, self-development can only get you so far. Working with a coach can shrink time and help you elevate your life much more quickly. If you’re serious and you really wanna make some lasting changes to create more:

  • Confidence in your life.
  • Increase your energy.
  • Have better routines to take care of your health.
  • Show up as the person you truly want to become.
