The Point of Setting Goals

""

In the world of self-improvement and achievement, goal setting is a commonly used concept. But what’s the point of setting goals? Does it help? Is it worthwhile?

The point of setting goals is to give you a clear destination of where you want to go and what you want to achieve in your life. This gives you a sense of direction which helps you grow and ultimately, achieve your goals.

Why is setting goals so important?

If you want to be, do, and have more in your life - great relationships, earn more money, have more freedom, get the body of your dreams, experience the finest things in life - then you’ll need to set goals.

Humans are inherently quite lazy. And once we have our basic survival needs met such as food, water, shelter, and our need for connection, many people will settle and stay there. There is little urgency to do more.

However, we have spiritual needs. We all have a deep desire to become more in our life. It’s a natural desire that lives in each of us.

Some people will settle for less and feel quite content. And that is totally acceptable (if it’s what you want). But I’m sure you’re reading this because you want more from life, correct?

What is the main purpose of a goal?

It’s not always about the achievement of the ‘thing’ once you achieve it. The main benefit comes from the process. Stepping up, learning, growing, and becoming a better version of yourself.

There will be obstacles along the way, challenges, and setbacks. The entire process of this elevates you to new heights and takes you closer to the top of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs pyramid.

The benefit of goal setting

In setting a goal, you have given yourself permission to become more. Each day you’ll have a greater sense of meaning and purpose. You’ll have a compass to live by.

Not only will this help you with the specific goals that you’re going after, but it’ll help you step up in all areas of life. It will increase your overall confidence, happiness, and sense of satisfaction.

But what happens if you don’t set a goal?

When you don’t do this, you’ll be leaving things to chance. And leaving your life to chance is a terrible idea. Why would you ever want to go through life with an average mentality and mediocre attitude when you’re capable of so much more?

Next Steps

I know that you’re here for a reason. You’re someone who values personal growth. You have an insane desire to be, do, and have more in your life. And you most likely have a knowing inside of you that there is tremendous potential.
